RLS4X Round 1 2010 Full Race Report & Results

So the 2010 RLS 4X season sponsored by TheBikeYard is finally upon us and we couldn't have woken up to worse weather conditions, a blanket a snow and no sign of it clearing up got us rather worried people weren’t going to show, however with a lot of help from the RLS4X locals and friends (and a big shout out to them as without them the race wouldn't of happened) we managed to clear the track of all the snow and then the racers started arriving. It was nice to see everyone again after the Xmas and New Year break, the Red Mist Racing boys, lots of RLS locals and even a new famous face! None other than UCI World Cup 4X Rider Tom Dowie turned up for our first race of the year!

With the track cleared of the white stuff, and practice over, we got the moto's under way, where we had some very entertaining and intense racing, from all the categories involved. Highlights included lots of close racing and tight lines, plenty of drifts from some! Riders of all ages providing some very action packed moto's from RLS 4X's latest club member Cai Mahon getting very stuck in the Juvenile category on his debut to NPS 4X's very own Chris 'Superman' Roberts getting smoked by a girl in moto 1 (not the best start hey Chris! only messing!)

With all the excitement from the moto's now over we introduced our first new challenge of the year (last year being the 10mile Road Bike Time Trial). The Mini bike Time Trial, the rules are simple, get the mini bike to the bottom in the fastest time, the person with the winning time overall gets £100 at the final round of the RLS 4X series (Date: TBC), sounds easy right? The bike has 16" wheels and an American style braking system (pedalling backwards) therefore no levers on those bars so its death grip all the way! We had 3 entries of varying heights in the first round, with Kyle Greenway, Guy Ratcliffe and Alistair Keen keeping everyone entertained during the lunch period, Alistair Keen is currently leading the way with a time of 48.6seconds, Kyle 51.1 seconds and Guy with a time of 101.3 seconds

After the mini rest break we returned to the 4X finals, with prizes to be had the pressure was on to get on the podium, riders touching elbows in the corners and over the jumps were just some of the highlights of the exciting finals action with all the categories provided tightly contested runs. The results finished as follows...

Juvenille

1st - Cai Mahon

2nd - Warwick Cox

3rd - Kyle Greenway

Youth

1st - James Yates

2nd - Blake Massey

3rd - Josh Bremridge

Senior

Lots of big thanks to be mentioned.... TheBikeYard for organising the race, prizes etc, Chris Roberts for the Air Ram, Stu and May from Monster Energy, Big Jon Cheetham the man behind the scenes that keeps the racing going, Lizards Cafe for providing much needed hot food, Steve from English Bay Photography for the rad photos, Guy Ratcliffe for keeping people entertained on the megaphone, Nathan Parsons, Jonny Cheetham, Jethro Stride, Alec Henderson, Chris Thurburn and anyone else that helped get the track rideable before everyone showed up, Sassi Woo and Anne Cheetham for keeping everything else organised behind the scenes and keeping the RLS 4X staff going. Tina Ingram for the lovely cakes and photo's.

RLS4X round 4 has now been re-scheduled for the 13th of December. This is the final race of the year and is not one to miss!

As this is the final race of the year we have been in touch with the organiser of the NPS 4X series and have access to the air ram system for the start gate. This is going to encourage some even more competitive racing and probably more crashes!

Don’t be put off by the English weather as the the track runs in pretty much all weather since its changes and resurfacing a few months ago. This is the only 4X race at this time of year so before you put your bike away for the winter come down to Leamington 4X for some winter carnage!

Race entry is £15 for members and £20 for non members. For anymore info contact us at info@rls4x.com

RLS4X Round 3 Race Report

RLS4X hosted round 3 of its race series over the bank holiday weekend; thankfully the weather was good to us (for a change!). We arrived Saturday morning to set up with the help of RLS locals and we ran gate practice all day on and even the Redhill boys showed up for a shred. Then after a hard days riding and track maintenance, ready for the next day, we got the BBQ on the go and chilled out to old biking movie classics.

Woke up Sunday morning freezing our socks off and did the last tweaks before sign on, the attendance wasn't as good as expected but we did manage to round up a few faces including Pink bikes Si Payton and have lots of fun racing.

The early moto's shown a good sign of things to come with lots of competitive 'rubbing' amongst the riders on all parts of the course. Highlights were Alex Metcalfe, his friends and even RLS4X's own Alec the ‘Hitman’ Henderson going huuuuge over the last jump, and the Local RLS riders all doing very well in the moto's.

Then during the lunch time interval we hosted a dad's race and uphill race to keep the crowd amused, the dad’s race back for the second time proved to be a huge success as it was just as thrilling as the last round with Steve Robertshaw staying on this time! The uphill race saw Lionel Akram pip Mop Head to the post and it was very, very close.

Then onto the finals, which threw up some interesting racing, and funny moments. In the juvenile category, RLS4X's Josh Bremidge kept the same form in the moto's to take the Juvenile win. In the youth category Nick Miller continued his winning ways, (the lad also won every one of his motos...show off), onto the Juniors RLS4X's Alec Henderson produced a very good 2nd with mechanical problems throughout the moto's Luke Stanley looked super quick out the gate and down the first straight all day. Onto the Seniors which saw Lee the Goose Feery take the win, with RLS4x's Adam Le Heat Nightingale getting podium on his debut race. The Masters category was very competitive with the riders even hosting a mid-race pump off! The overall winner of the category was Nigel Smith. The elites rounded off the day with some very good close racing, and most of the category styling it up over the last jump with big style points of the day going to Alex Metcalfe, Stevie Taylor and Alec Hitman Henderson.

Big thanks goes to RLS4X Club Members who helped out a lot, Albany Cycles, Lizards Cafe, Shakespeare Marquees, DfourB, Descent-Gear, Mr C, JC, Adam Le Heat, Matthew Sideways Sills for the snaps, Si Payton and Descentgear, The Lock family, Cooper man for commentary, Buildbase for supplying the tools for the redevelopment of the track... and Billy Cheetham for making it all possible

We all hope to see you again at our next round on the 19th* & 20th** September * Gate Practice all day ** Race Day

Track changes in full swing - Posted on 28/07/09

This week work has started on changing the track and we are making great progress. The contractors started on Monday bringing men with shovels and a big digger! Already we have managed to change most areas of the track adding new jumps, rollers, step ups and more...

Anyway this update is useless without pictures so i'll let them do the talking, but only some teasers for now!

We have plenty more work to do as the track wont be fully running until the limestone layer is on. We hope for the track to be finished by next week and would appreciate it if the track isnt used until its finished as this creates more work for us. If you fancy popping down to help we will be at the track all week 8am - 4pm.

RLS4X Round 2 Race Report - Posted on 10/06/09

Well were do I start…..I woke up early Saturday to look out the window only to be greeted by torrential rain and a weather warning for Sunday…alarm bells were ringing…do we don’t we hold the race, is it flooded, can we race it? The team and I arrived at the track early sat morning to set up for the race then took the opportunity to get the tools out and begin the big haul to get the track riding well, sorting the drainage and jumps, fair play to the team as the track rode really well and held up all weekend to see some good racing and riding action over the weekend.

Sunday finally arrived and so did the riders with a great turnout despite the weather warnings and heavy rain (big thanks to everyone who attended). Practice began early Sunday seeing some good riding and crashes due to the weather with the 2nd berm seeing most of the action as it was really wet but you could get some serious drifts on the case. We decided to do random starts for gate praci and racing which went down well with all the riders, this is what we will be doing all race series and for gate praci every Wednesday night from 6pm onwards.

Now to the racing…. The day sore some good rides and races with the likes of Luke Clarke, Josh Bremridge (Big respect goes to Josh for continuing after a bad stack in the motos), Blake Massey and Alec Henderson all doing there bit for team RLS4X putting in some good results for the club, Matt sideways Sills was also looking good over the weekend finishing 2nd in senior in his 2nd race ever!

We also took the opportunity to run a dads race in the break which went down well, Mr Robertshaw had a good stack on the last straight to be overtaken by Mr C who took 3rd spot think they got the best cheer all day, well done to the dads!

Jordan Gould riding in the Elite category also had a good ride looking smooth and fast all day taking the Elite win with Alistair Keen coming a close 2nd in his first Elite race. Even Big Jonny Cheetham decided to dust off his bike and enter after being off with an injury for god knows how long!

We now plan to get the diggers in before our next race in August 29th & 30th and make a few changes to the track so keep an eye on the website for updates on what’s happening.

Big thanks to Albany Cycles, Monster Energy, Lizards Café, A1 Loo hire, Mr C for making the event run smoothly, the RLS 4X team/riders (you know who you are!) Andy Kellow, Nathan Parsons and JC for operating the gate, Graham and Yati for keeping results accurate, Sophia, Sassi Woo and Mrs C for doing a great job on sign on, Adam Le Sheet for commentating and to every single rider that attended making it a fantastic day!

RLS4X just want to say a BIG THANKS to all the people who got involved on 29th March for our 1st event, it was a great event, but I would like to apologise for the slight mistake halfway through the day, this was due to a problem with the software and will be resolved for next time, but thanks again for turning up and for your patience whilst we got it running again.
